Lee...

Oh lord is I ever mad.

Now, I'm no Yankee fan.  No, I'm something much more sad and desperate.  I am a New York Met fan.  The addition of Cliff Lee to the Phillies spells certain doom for the Mets for the foreseeable future.  Aside from the fact that the Yankees got scorned there's really nothing for me to take solace in.  Generally when a pitcher of this caliber hits the open market teams have to overpay and sign the player to a longer contract then would be ideal.  Eventually the once great player's contract becomes an albatross, taking up a larger portion of the teams payroll then he is really worth (See Mets; Santana & Beltran).  But Lee wanted to go back to the Phillies so badly he signed a 5 year contract worth $120 million when it was being reported the Yankess had offered a 7 year contract worth nearly $170 million.

I understand it's good for baseball that, for once, a player didn't let money be the only determining factor when choosing which team to sign with. As a Met fan however, oh lord is i mad.
